Taking Home Your New Rabbit

Share |

Taking your new pet rabbit home for the first time can be a scary adventure for your rabbit.  If you make the transition less traumatic for your rabbit, it will be easier for your rabbit to blend in quickly and easily with your family.  Before you take your rabbit home, it is a good idea to prepare your home for your rabbit’s arrival and this will help to make the transition go more smoothly.  Here are some tips for making your rabbit’s homecoming great for your rabbit:

  1. Before you pick up your new rabbit, it is a good idea to have your rabbit’s home and accessories already for your rabbit to enjoy.  This will help to make your rabbit feel at home as soon as he or she enters the door.  A starter kit for new rabbits is a great thing to get when you are picking up your first rabbit.  The Tommy Rabbit Starter Kit has all the basics that you will need to care for and house your rabbit.
  2. The most important thing to purchase is a safe rabbit carrier to carry home your rabbit.  It is important to choose one that is sturdy and made to last for many years like the Marchioro Skipper Pet Carrier by Marchioro.
  3. When traveling toward home, keep your rabbit close to you and talk softly in a comforting voice to reassure your rabbit that he or she will be safe and secure.
  4. Keep the noise to a minimum when on the way home and when you get home to allow your rabbit to peacefully enjoy his or her new surroundings.
  5. Take your rabbit directly home.  Your rabbit is sure to nervous and making stops on the way home is going to add to the stress.
  6. Be sure to drive carefully on the way home and avoid driving on bumpy roads or driving around corners too fast.  Your rabbit will not feel safe or comfortable if he or she loses his balance in the car.

Taking your rabbit home for the first time can be an exciting experience for you and a scary one for your rabbit.  To make the experience more comfortable for your rabbit, it is a good idea to put your rabbit’s needs first.  For all of your rabbit’s needs to help him live a great life, check out RabbitMart.
